Ask a failing franchisee, and they have probably discovered that despite the fact they cannot earn money, they cannot get out or stop. This is one of the dishonest aspects of the industry. There seems to be no policy of franchise ethics that even makes earnings for a franchisee an objective, let alone a commitment!

Most franchises contain both restrictive covenants and other clauses that prevent you from doing anything else to earn money during the contract, and also prevent you doing similar things afterwards.

Make sure you understand the types of dangerous lockin clause.
