There is a fatal flaw in the franchise model, which is because of the standardized form of trading, and so how it can respond to competition.

The apparent strength of a fixed trading format prove to be the businesses biggest and fatal weakness, but it is only a weakness for the franchisee! It does not hurt the franchisor at all: in fact, what makes it riskier for the franchisee, makes it less risky for the franchisor.

As a franchisee your interests are just not the same as those of the franchise.
